We have a room at the Embassy Suites (the hotel RIGHT next to the convention center), and have plenty of floor space, and likely room for one or two inflatable beds. Our room prefers non-smokers (even if you smoke outside, you still smell =P), and we're not a party room. If you get a bit tipsy somewhere else, that's fine, but if you cause problems for anyone in the room you'll find yourself outside the door wondering wtf just happened. ^_^
So, nice place to stay with people who don't suck, and no late night partying to keep you from missing the con. Besides, if you go to other people's room parties you don't have to pay for the booze. ~_^
So lemme know, either here or by email, text, IM, whatever, and we'll add you to the list.
Right now we're aiming for 8 people in the room which'll cost $40 for Friday and Saturday nights.

I'm renting a room for $425 (includes utilities, cable, wireless internet).I do a month to month lease.  I ask that alcohol is out of sight out of mind. I don't care if you drink, but I don't want to be tempted by alcohol.

The bedroom shares a bathroom with my other roommate (gay male) who is going to college in NC.  Is is renting it at a discounted rate to keep his stuff in and to visit on ocassion.  So you would pretty much have it to yourself.  Dustin, my other roommate is a very trustworthy 19 year old male.  He has a scholarship for opera. 

My townhouse is clean, quiet and cozy and I'm looking for a roommate that can strengthen not take away from this atmosphere.

I'll start.

I'm Casey, I'll be 21 in April and I am the current President of ODU Out.  I am currently a junior on the five-year track studying Sociology and Japanese Studies (and no, I'm not planning on researching the Yakuza tongue ).  I am biracial, Puerto Rican and Haitian, and spiritually I am a Wiccan, though I draw my spiritual beliefs from many sources including the JudeoChristian-Islamic triad.  I also happen to be a female-to-male transsexual and am attracted to other guys (and I can field questions people may have about any aspect of my identity).  And I'm a fairly laid-back person when it comes to other people, and it takes quite a bit to make me truly angry, so don't be shy; I will probably like you well enough and hope the reverse will be true.

The Men’s Issues Committee in the Division of Student Affairs invites male students to participate in two upcoming dinner conversations.  The goal of these dinners will be to gain insights into the male student experience at ODU in an effort to identify ways we can better support our male student population.  Students will be provided with free dinners in exchange for their participation in an hour-long conversation on each night.

Interested students should be prepared to commit to attending both dinners.  The first dinner will occur Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. with members of the Men’s Issues Committee.  The second dinner will be hosted by Tony Porter, a nationally recognized speaker on men’s issues, on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 6:00 p.m.  During this April dinner, students will have an exclusive opportunity to interact with Mr. Porter with no members of the Men’s Issues Committee present.

Professor Derlega wrote:

You are invited to participate in a study focusing on same-sex romantic or intimate relationships.  Please read the following to see if you are eligible for this study.

Have you been in a relationship that was hard to end?  Did you or your ex-partner have a difficult time letting go of the relationship?  Did you or your ex-partner continue to try to maintain contact with the other or attempt to reconcile the relationship repeatedly?  If either you or a former partner had difficulty letting go of a relationship, you are eligible to participate.  For more details about the study, see the first page of the survey.  Your responses will be completely anonymous.

Location: Portsmouth/Virginia Beach Room
There will be food!

Of course, there are quite a lot of shows and characters that we can choose from, but we want to try to make sure to include a lot of characters people are actively interested in.  So please leave suggestions of some of your favorite queer characters and we'll factor them into the final cut.  Some possible examples follow:

  • Ouran High School Host Club (Fujioka Haruhi)

  • Kuroshitsuji (Grell Sutcliff)

  • Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Leeron Littner)

  • Revolutionary Girl Utena (Tenjou Utena/Himemiya Anthy, Arisugawa Juri...ok, really we could include almost the entire cast for this one tongue )

  • Sailor Moon (Ten'ou Haruka/Kaiou Michiru)

  • Ranma 1/2 (Saotome Ranma)

  • Code Geass (Lloyd Asplund, Nina Einstein)

  • Kyou Kara Maou (Wolfram von Bielefeld, Gunter von Christ)

  • Cardcaptor Sakura (Kinomoto Touya/Tsukishiro Yukito)

  • Neon Genesis Evangelion (Nagisa Kaworu)

  • Gundam 00 (Tieria Erde)

And that's just skimming the surface.  We're looking for characters who are gay, lesbian or bisexual, or who have cross-gendered behavior and/or dress.  And even better if they are from a non-shoujo series (ex. Gurren Lagann), as gender/sexual diversity is most often shown in shoujo.  So feel free to suggest your favorites!

Where: Campus-wide

Live Homosexual Acts is an event where we will have ordinary GLBTQ students and allies going about their days as usual, but wearing little flip-card signs that say things like "queer/ally going to class" or "queer/ally studying."  The term on the flip chart may of course be adapted to the participant's choice.  The flip-cards are to be removed before leaving campus, as we cannot guarantee a person's safety outside of campus and do not want to risk anyone getting hurt.

During Activity Hour that day, we have a bit of Kaufman Mall reserved and will be having a picnic, cordoned off with rope/yellow-tape and a sign saying something along the lines of "queers and their supporters eating lunch."  Anyone is free to take part in the picnic.

The point of this event is to broadcast a little awareness to campus, to show that GLBTQ students do basically the same things as everyone else.  Usually when someone discriminates against GLBTQ people, they don't know many to begin with, and there is a bit of a fear of the unknown (especially when combined with demonizing myths).  This is a day to put a human face on GLBTQ people and their allies.

No one is required to take part in this event, but we would love for as many people who are comfortable with it as possible to participate.  If you are interested, please contact me ASAP.
